- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 ¼ cups water (room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, thyme)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (parmesan, mozzarella, or a mix)
- Optional: 2 cloves garlic (minced), ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes (chopped)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, and salt.
- Add the water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough comes together, then add the Italian seasoning and cheese.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
- After the rise, turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and fold the edges into the center to form a rough ball.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven or heavy pot inside to heat up.
- Carefully transfer the dough into the hot pot. Score the top with a sharp knife if desired.
- Cover the pot with a lid and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover the pot and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute some of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier loaf.
